People are more worried than ever about scams.

In fact, according to their 2023 Scam Risk Report, the Better Business Bureau reports that for people aged 18 - 44, stress and anxiety is the number one emotional impact of being targeted by a scammer. For people over 45, the number one emotional impact is anger.

The Threat Is Real

Scam Statistics Are Growing Year Over Year.

The FBI Internet Crime Complaint Centre reports that in 2022, they received reports of losses totalling $10.3 Billion. It is estimated that less than 10% of scam losses are actually reported, so any scam statistic you read is significantly understated.

The Consequences Go Far Beyond Losing Money

Scam victims experience a range of emotional impacts from being deceived. Anxiety, loss of trust in others, loss of trust in yourself and depression are some of the effects of being misled into a scam. A Better Business Bureau study found a Romance Scam victim support group that reported every single victim using their service had contemplated suicide after realizing they were scammed.

The Threat Is Real

Scammers have been successful in convincing their target to empty their savings, take out loans, even maximize their credit card debt through cash advances. Some Romance Scam victims cannot remove themselves from the situation. Once all the money is gone, there are cases where the victim becomes a willing money mule for the scammer. Who can afford that kind of loss? What would the emotional impact be to have your finances ruined?

The World is Different Now

What Has Happened to my Routine, Neighbourly, Secure Life?

Have you ever taken a trip to another country? In most travel cases, research is required about your destination to keep safe throughout your trip.

🦉   What are the do's and don'ts about how to act?
🦉   How can I safely travel around?
🦉   What is crime like?

We know that tourists are favourite targets for criminals. We know we should not flaunt any wealth or carry large sums of cash.

The point is we realize that we are travelling to another culture and local people have different values and a different sense of right, wrong and fairness. We know we have to adapt our behaviour so as not to invite trouble.

A Criminal Can Now Reach Us From Across The World At Any Time

Anxiety over scams has recently escalated and part of the reason is that we cannot hide from a scammer, no matter where they are. What we once thought of as our own safe, secure existence can be disturbed at a moments notice.

All of a sudden we could be contacted by someone from another culture, who plays by different rules than we do. Instead of travelling to a destination where we need to learn how to stay safe, we must now learn how to take care at home.

Our world has become something we are not used to.

The Tools Are Different

Technology Including Artificial Intelligence Software Is Quickly Changing The Game

Scammers have access to technology allowing them to:

🥷🏿  Cheaply print fraudulent financial documents, including cheques, certified cheques and bank drafts
🥷🏿  Create functioning websites that look like legitimate stores or investment houses
🥷🏿  Hijack a telephone line

And the threat has taken a significant jump with the advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Software.

Scammers use AI Software to:

🥷🏿   Create fraudulent scenarios that seem realistic to potential victims
🥷🏿   Create audio and video files to look and sound like people familiar to us

Financial Institutions and Police Services are Trying, but They Can't Seem to Keep Up With the Ever Changing Scam World

Banks and other financial institutions have some protections in place to hinder scammers, however they are only willing to go so far to protect their customers. They don't want to spend money on features where they don't feel they are responsible for the losses. Even if they are convinced a new set of protections is necessary, their corporate structure is slow moving and in the meantime, people are still becoming victims.

Police services are hampered by the fact that scams are typically international in scope. Cooperation between global jurisdictions is necessary, and it is difficult to convince foreign police to budget for a problem across the world. Scamming has become so lucrative, organized crime is able and willing to use cutting edge technology and slick, sophisticated methods to deceive their target. Police are having a hard time keeping up with the ever changing scam world.

It's Up to You

Unfortunately, the fact is it is up to each of us to become as immune to scam attempts as possible. We must take the action to protect ourselves and our loved ones against the increasing threat of scams.

NICE TO MEET YOU - Read My Story Below or Watch It On Video

Hi, I'm Doug Carey

I am pleased to offer a course that teaches how to identify scam attempts and navigate your way through the hazard without losing your hard earned money.

I became involved in a scam several years ago when I was shopping online for a high value product. I came across an advertisement that offered exactly what I was looking for at a great price. I became leery however, when I found out the item was far away so I could not view it, and the seller wanted the payment via wire transfer. I was fortunate to be able to contact a scam expert from my local Anti-Fraud Service who informed me this was definitely a scam.

Unfortunately, a scam expert will not likely be immediately available during a time of need. I have tried to talk to my Anti-Fraud Service several times since and have been unable to talk to anyone due to the volume of calls they were receiving. And in fact, their mandate is to inform the public of scam details, not to be available as an expert service when needed. When a scammer is trying to deceive you to steal your money, you will likely be without expert help. You will need to figure things out for yourself.

An idea came to me on how to help people fend for themselves when I read a study that defined a scam attempt as provoking and committing an error in judgement - essentially a deception leading to a thinking mistake.

I spent my working career in the Nuclear Power industry, a field where human error is not tolerated. In fact, the Nuclear Power industry has been on the leading edge of human error reduction for years. Half of my working life was involved in the training section, designing and developing courses to present to nuclear professionals that incorporate human error reduction methods.

Taking advantage of my background in training course development and human error reduction, I created the Become Wise to the Scam course.  This training provides the knowledge and methods necessary to recognize a scam attempt, confirm whether or not the situation is fraudulent and steer away from the harm intended by the scammer.

Again, I’m excited to offer Become Wise to the Scam, a course that takes advantage of years of industry research into error reduction to keep us safe from losing money to a scammer.

Become Wise to the Scam

Think of Become Wise to the Scam as an insurance policy.

Most of us pay several hundred dollars every year to insure our vehicles. With lifetime access to this course, for a one time payment you can ensure yourself against a scam attempt forever.

The FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center reported in 2022 the average loss per scam was more than $12,000.00.

How Much is That Security for You and Your Loved Ones Worth?

The average loss per scam of $12,000.00 is a very sobering fact. However, as stated before, the consequences of being deceived by a scammer goes far beyond the money involved.

Scam victims are affected psychologically because they feel so responsible for what happened. It doesn't help that a lot of people also blame the victim of a scam for their own problems.

The fact is, scam victims have been deceived and the fault lies with the scammer alone. Think of the concept of entrapment in a legal case. If the police act to coerce a person to commit a crime they may not have otherwise committed, the person cannot be found guilty of the crime.

However scam victims still feel anxiety, loss of faith, anger, guilt and this can lead to depression. The situation has led to people contemplating suicide.
